Product Economy Trying to cut back on expenses an Product Economy

Trying to cut back on expenses and stretch your skincare products as far as they can go - we all can relate.

Here are my tips that might help you look after your skin through these tough times:

*Cut out the luxuries but not the necessities
e.g. Cleanser is more important than an eye cream.

*If you can only purchase one cream, make it a great sunscreen.

*DON'T mix or dilute your products - especially sunscreens. An adequate amount of sunscreen applied daily is essential. Don't create your own bb cream that is not skincare that is makeup.

*little bit goes a long way.

Consider what is important to you - you can always buy another jean, but you only have one skin.

Skincare should not be seen as an expensive luxury but more a non-negotiable necessity.

Stay tuned I will be sharing more tips and tricks on great budget skincare products you can find at your nearest drugstores or skincare clinic.

Re signal your skincare ⠀ ⠀ A change is as goo Re signal your skincare ⠀
⠀
A change is as good as a holiday even when it comes to skincare products.⠀
⠀
In my previous post, I covered the HABITATION effect that affects our skin health and how it is vital to re-signal the signalling process in your skin.⠀
This ensures you get the most out of your homecare products.⠀
⠀
Here is how I ensure my clients get longlasting and continuous results.⠀
⠀
I change the:⠀
⠀
*Duration of products: If the habituation stimulus is not present for a long enough period before a sudden reintroduction, the response will once again reappear at full-strength, a phenomenon known as spontaneous recovery.⠀
Every 4-6 months, it is needed to change your skincare routine.⠀
⠀
*Frequency: The more frequently a stimulus is presented, the faster habituation will occur. ⠀
I increase or decrease the amount of application per week of the product used.⠀
⠀
*Intensity: Very intense stimuli tend to result in slower habituation.⠀
By changing the intensity or duration of the stimulation may result in a reoccurrence of the initial response. ⠀
⠀
In summary, I love changing my client skincare programs from a winter to a summer routine. ⠀
Continually reassess their skin and guide them on how to get the most out of there homecare skin journey.⠀
We invest in our skin and should be rewarded with visible results.
The Habituation Effect in skincare⠀ ⠀ Change y The Habituation Effect in skincare⠀
⠀
Change your skincare routine every 4-6 months and here are the reasons why and how to.
⠀
Have you ever felt your skin is not achieving that glow or wow factor it usually gets from your skincare routine ?⠀
You have invested in amazing skincare products so why are you not seeing the results.⠀
⠀
Well except for all the lifestyle and genetic changes we go through on a daily bases there is another change - It is called Habituation effect.⠀
⠀
To understand the Hibitiation effect you must understand how cells communicated and how products work in your skin. This is just a short summary but this is actaully a very in-depth process.⠀
⠀
Communication is incredibly important for our skin health, although our skin cells don't communicate the way me and you would, they communicate by way of messenger and signaling. When a receptors molecule and signal molecule bind amazing things happen in the skin. ⠀
Your skin cells can either switch themself on or switch on the surrounding skin cells.⠀
⠀
Skincare product ingredients are signal molecules - tiny molecules that switch on a cell to either do something inside itself or it switches on other cells to creates a cascade reaction in the skin. This is how your active ingredient in the products you buy activates your skin cells to repair your DNA, stimulates renewal, suppresses pigmentation, increases hydration level, stimulates collagen synthesis.⠀
⠀
So what happen in the Habituation effect there is a decrease in response to a stimulus after repeated presentations. For example, a new sound in your environment, such as a new ringtone, may initially draw your attention or even become distracting. This diminished response is habituation and this happens to the receptor cells. They get unresponsive to the message send by signaling cells. ⠀
⠀
So how do we re signal the signaling process?⠀
⠀
Read in my next post to find out more.
Photosensitizing and sun sensitivity ⠀ Do you kn Photosensitizing and sun sensitivity ⠀
Do you know what it actually means and why it is important to take note of this? ⠀
⠀
There is an exhaustingly long list of medications and topical products that can cause photosensitization - prescription and over the counter products even your skincare products at home, but many people do not realize just quite how serious this warning is and what it actually means.⠀
⠀
In a nutshell, your skin reacts to the normal amount of sunlight or artificial lights you are exposed to daily (phone , laptop, or lighting in your home) in a more reactive way than it normally would do.⠀
⠀
The visible signs on the skin after a photosensitizing reaction are:⠀
*burning ⠀
*sensitivity ⠀
*dryness⠀
*blistering⠀
*redness ⠀
*swelling ⠀
It can be one or all of these symptoms listed above.

But the damage done inside the skin is the biggest culprit. The formation of free radicals causing:⠀
⠀
Inflammation - acne/ redness⠀
Rapid formation of hyperpigmentation⠀
Sensitive skin and skin reactions - rashes⠀
Accelerated aging⠀
⠀
This might not even happen after the first time of consuming or apply the drug, but be aware of what it is doing to your skin that is unseen to the naked eye.⠀
⠀
This can definitely affect the results of your in-clinic treatment plan and home care routine.⠀
You might feel like your products or treatments are not working, and your skin is not responding the way you had hope.⠀
This is the main reason why being aware of what you consume and doing a thorough consultation with your skincare expert is important.⠀
⠀
My 5 skincare tips are if you are using a photosensitizing drug topical or orally.⠀
⠀
Always be aware of what you consume - the next 24 hours is essential.⠀
Wear a great sunscreen that protects your skin against UVA UVB and HEV. Even if you do not cleanse your face in the morning apply your sunscreen.⠀
Protect your skin from sunlight when outdoors wear a hat - a cap is not a hat.😉⠀
Inform your skincare expert of any changes in your lifestyle - diet or lifestyle. Only by doing this your can obtain successful results.
    Prescription & Nonprescription medication⠀ The o Prescription & Nonprescription medication⠀
The ongoing trigger that can be the cause of many of your skin concerns.⠀
⠀
Concerns like:⠀
*mild - severe acne⠀
*brown spots ⠀
*wrinkles⠀
*vascularity⠀
* hyper/hypopigmentation⠀
*sensitivity, dryness and barrier impairment⠀
*accelerated ageing - diminishing collagen and elastin⠀
⠀
We tend to think that only prescription medication can affect our skin health but the truth is everything you consume contributes to determining your skin’s health. ⠀
⠀
Here is a list of few prescriptions and nonprescription drugs⠀
⠀
Essential oils topically and ingested⠀
Bergamont, cumin, ginger, lemon, lime, mandarin, orange, verbena.⠀
Dyes -used in diagnostic medicine⠀
Antidepressants ⠀
Anti-anxiety medication ⠀
Aspirin⠀
Tetracyclines (doxycycline, minocycline, tetracycline)⠀
Fluoroquinolones (ciprofloxacin, ofloxacin, norfloxacin, moxifloxacin)⠀
sulfonamides (sulfamethoxazole-trimethoprim)⠀
NSAIDs (ibuprofen, ketoprofen, naproxen)⠀
furosemide⠀
hydrochlorothiazide⠀
isotretinoin⠀
amiodarone⠀
diltiazem⠀
chlorpromazine⠀
quinidine⠀
statins (atorvastatin, simvastatin, etc.)⠀
phenothiazines (chlorpromazine, perphenazine, etc.)⠀
antifungals (itraconazole, voriconazole)⠀
Reacutanne⠀
Sinus medication - ⠀
Homeopathy remedies⠀
Perfumes ⠀
Coconut oil - ⠀
Migraine medication⠀
Anticonvulsants, such as Dilantin⠀
Corticosteroids, such as Prednisone or long-term use of steroids⠀
Immuran⠀
Quinine⠀
Lithium⠀
Thyroid medications⠀
Antihistamines and sedative drugs, such as Benadryl and Phenergan⠀
Painkillers, such as Advil and NSAID Aleve ⠀
Herbal supplement Saint John's wort (taken as an antidepressant) can also thin the blood, as can garlic, vitamin E, and Ginkgo Biloba.⠀
and the list can go on.⠀
⠀
Even if you cannot stop taking the medication, it is still important to be aware of the causes behind any skin issues that you are experiencing, as this will help you to deal with them in the most adequate way.
Take CAUTION with your medications ⠀ ⠀ While y Take CAUTION with your medications ⠀
⠀
While you may not usually tend to read the small print, your medication can often be the reason behind unexplained issues with your skin’s health. ⠀
⠀
Understanding that ingesting a constant trigger can cause sun sensitivity, aggravate or stimulate hyperpigmentation, can cause the skin to thin, form purpura (purple dots in the skin), and suppress the growth of skin cells - just to mention a few. Your therapist can guide you on how to deal with your skin concerns in the best way.⠀
⠀
In my next post, I will cover more on skin concerns triggered by prescription and non-prescription medication that we ingest daily, which compromises our skin health.
MENTAL HEALTH effect on my skin.⠀ ⠀ Studies ha MENTAL HEALTH effect on my skin.⠀
⠀
Studies have shown that your skin is influenced by your emotional and nervous states. ⠀
⠀
These studies have been compiled more than 70 years ago so the notion that there is an emotional linkage between brain-gut and skin is not something new, but still, we only treat the skin from the outside in!⠀
We should start seeing skincare as internal care. ⠀
⠀
Acne⠀
Dry skin⠀
Rash-like symptoms⠀
Sensitive, reactive skin⠀
Poor healing rate⠀
Premature aged skin⠀
Rosacea flare-ups⠀
Cutaneous redness, edema, inflammation in the skin.⠀
All of the above mentioned conditions have direct links to your mental health conditions like depression, stress due to confinement, worry, stress due to crowding or academic stress, trauma, and even anxiety.⠀
⠀
According to a report by the American Psychological Association, long-term stress even weakens the responses of your immune system of which your skin is the largest immune organ.⠀
⠀
All these emotional states alters gastrointestinal tract function and changes cause alterations to the microbial flora, which in turn promotes local and systemic inflammation in the body/ skin.⠀
⠀
The inflammation is due to an overgrowth of bad microbes - SIBO - small intestine bacteria overgrowth.⠀
SIBO is strongly associated with depression and anxiety.⠀
⠀
Eradication of SIBO improves emotional symptoms and in return your skin health. ⠀
⠀
The remedies to cut off these stress-induced cycles are:⠀
⠀
*Oral administration of probiotics and beneficial bacteria can mediate both skin inflammation and mental health.⠀
⠀
*Omega 3 fatty acids:⠀
Not only does an omega-3 deficient diet increase SIBO, it has also been linked multiple times to an increased risk of depressive symptoms.⠀
⠀
So before you start freaking about your skin freaking out, have a look at your MENTAL health and GUT health.
