Preparing for Winter

Dryness, dehydration and dull skin are all conditions we suffer from in winter – all after-effects of a sunny summer.

And the shortening days and drier air of the transitional season are not doing your skin any favours.

Now is the time to adjust your skincare routine, to restore the damage of summer and prepare your skin for winter.

It is important to know what to avoid and what to incorporate in your skincare to benefit you not only now but for future years to come.

  1. Continue protecting your skin

The sun’s rays are harmful all year round, so don’t skimp on the sunscreen now. UVA is the indirect rays which causes ageing by free radical damage. Most people feel even working a office job keeps them safe but UVA is daylight, computer screens and many more. Wearing SPF year-round is one of the best-kept anti-ageing secrets. We recommended Helase SPF 50 and Lamelle corrective brightening serum.

  2. Keep your hydration levels up

Most people don’t understand this principle very well. They lather on oil but still feel dry, it is because the oil is just lying on the surrface not being able to penetrate into the skin. You need to hydrate your skin own water levels – and no this is not by drinking water. You skin looses a lot of water due to  – barrier is impairment and this happens a lot in winter months or even transitioning from season. So boosting your Hylorionic acid levels in your skin will boost your skin hydration levels. We recommended Lamelle HA Plus serum.

Hydrating HA Serum Plus

Hydrating HA PLUS is a supplement to a moisturiser for dry skin concerns. The serum contains high concentrations of HAFi fragments which attract water and activate cell metabolism within the skin.

Optimal water levels in the skin is essential to maintain an effective barrier function, cell shedding capabilities and cell metabolism. This is pivotal in establishing and maintaining an effective barrier to control water exchange as well as preventing the entry of harmful elements and overall moisturisation, to enhance normal skin shedding and reduce skin tightness and sensitivity.

Suitable for all skin types, including those intolerable of oil based skin types. The high concentrations of specialised ingredients and unique HAFi fragments that attract water into the skin and keep water in place, enhancing normal skin shedding and reducing skin tightness and sensitivity. Added benefits to patients with skin thinning is the thickening and plumping of the skin as well as a reduction in pseudo-scars, haemorrhage and thin visible vessels due to hydrating HA PLUS increasing cell proliferation, movement, and enhanced cell growth. With repeated use of hydrating HA PLUS, skin becomes softer, smoother and brighter.

3. Antioxidants and vitamins are now your skin’s best friends

Boosting your skin against free radical damage occurred in summer and seasonal changes. Just as jou body needs a boost you skin is an organ need topical application of vitamins as well.

The big five
Dr Bradley Wagemaker, Medical Director at biotechnology innovators Lamelle Research Laboratories, narrows it down to just five:
1. Vitamin C
2. Vitamin E
3. Coenzyme Q10 (a versatile, energy-producing compound in our cells that’s also a powerful antioxidant – we often need to supplement this)
4. Glutathione (also produced inside your body, but needs supplementing as you age)
5. Uric acid (an important moisturiser that we now know also acts as an antioxidant in small doses)

We recommended Obagi Vitamin C and Lamelle Nourish Revitalise Cream.

4. Exfoliate often, but gently

New cells are key to revitalising your skin in preparation for winter. Regular exfoliation will help speed up the process, but be wary of over exfoliating. This can lead to unnecessary irritation and barrier impairedment. Look instead to home care products that contain topical active ingredients that help your skin exfoliate gently or while you sleep. We recommended for psoriasis client Lamelle Cathepzyme or Lamelle Corrective Vitamin A.

5. Focus on restoring collagen

Focus on restoring collagen – Summer sun tends to break down collagen and elastin, while dehydrating. So now’s the ideal time to start looking toward targeted skin restorers. Consider collagen-boosting home care products . We receommend Lamelle RA Cream, Lamelle Dermaheal range or Obagi Rejuvenation Kit.

6. Barrier repair

Most of us feel dry during these seasonal changes this usually due to barrier impairment. The barrier function is to trap water in the skin. Adequate water levels are essential for normal skin and body functioning. If t layers is disrupted or deficient, excess water will escape from the skin causing the sensation of skin dryness, namely tight, itching, rough skin.

So make sure you treat your dryness correctly this winter – We recommend Lamelle Serra Restore.

Winter is coming so make sure you are “product-ed” up and prepared.

  • Whats New (s) // LUNA 2 mini ⠀
⠀
Customise your cleansing experience. ⠀
⠀
Do you ever feel like your cleanser just doesn't clean your skin enough and you need something more? Something that removes all the dirt and impurities? However, over cleansing with the wrong cleanser can do more harm to your skin than good. So what do you do?⠀
⠀
This is when I discovered the LUNA 2.⠀
⠀
LUNA 2 is a unisex cleansing tool suitable for all skin types. It drives away dead skin cells and unclogs 99.5% of pores from dirt and oil aka make up. ⠀
⠀
And unlike other cleansing devices with bristles that require excess sterilisation and transfer bacteria onto your skin, the LUNA 2 is made from an ultra-hygienic silicone that is nonporous and resist bacteria buildup. Preventing transfer of bacteria (??) and making your skin glow. ⠀

  • Saturday skincare tip // ⠀
Remember Sun burn fades but Sun Damages last.⠀
⠀
Even on cloud covered days UVA rays damage to your skin is still the same. So wear you SPF daily even when in door or out doors.⠀
⠀
Our darken skin types skin will even darken with SPF applied because of the type of melanin by just daily exposure but it is the damage that you want to avoid.⠀
Our lighter skin type are less fortunate and our damage is obtained quicker.⠀
⠀
So look after your skin - you would regret the good choices you make today.⠀

  • Men's Health // Movember
Skincare / Skin health should be as important to men as it is to women.

As November is the month to bring awareness to men's health issues, such as prostate cancer, testicular cancer, and men's suicide. I think we should also bring awareness to skin health as men actually have a higher rate of skin cancer than women.
When it comes to the skin, men have thicker, more oily skins with larger pores.
So cleansing it properly should be essential to avoid build up of dead skin cells, clogging of pores and to make sure you remove the dirt and impurities off the skin.

For all men suffering from beard ingrown hair aka
Pseudofolliculitis Barbae.

I recommended the Luna 2 - 3-In-1 Facial Scrub Brush, Pre-Shaving& Anti-Aging Device.

Easy to use and resulting in your razor blades to last twice as long. For more info please contact me. #movember #menskincare #skincaretip #awareness #testicularcancer #prostatecancer #skincancer #skinhealth #layersskin #foreo #luna2 #folliculitis

⠀
I am not a tattoo person at all and get bored very quickly with things. So I thought this will never be for me but how pleasantly surprised I was. ⠀
⠀⠀
Most people at first glance think my brows are naturally this way. I actually find it to be a complement as they appear natural and that was what I wanted.⠀⠀
⠀⠀
I find that brows do frame your eyes and face. So by just applying foundation after my spf in the” morning, my face looks done.⠀
⠀⠀
Some indivuals have gorgeous brows and I will say never change them but for those less fortunate like I was - micro blade them. ⠀

  • Ask the professional //What is skin cancer? ⠀
⠀
Dr Cordula Winkler Says | Plastic & Reconstructive Surgeon⠀
⠀
"A cancer is a mass of cells no longer functioning as they should, that continue to divide and grow resulting in the formation of a tumor. There tumors can present in different ways depending on the type of cell that is affected. ⠀
⠀
So what do we need to look out for? Take a look at your moles or any other lumps and bumps on your skin.⠀
A. Asymmetry. If you draw a line throught the middle of your lesion, are the two halves the same?⠀
B. Border: is the lesion clearly defined?⠀
C. Colour: is the lesion the same colour throughout?⠀
D. Is the lesion less than 6mm in diameter?⠀
E. Evolution: Has the lesion remainded the same wihtout itching, bleeding or the same size?⠀
If you answered NO to any of the above questions, its time for you to see you doctor about it.⠀
⠀
A dermatologist is the best specialist to be able to diagnose what type of lesion you have. This may require the need for a biopsy, where either a part of, or the whole lesion is cut out and sent to the pathologists for an analysis. If the skin lesion is large or positioned in a cosmetrically sensitive area, you will be referred to a plastic surgeon to have the tumor removed surgically.⠀
⠀
Looking after our skin and preventing further radiation damage is possible. The following are tips that you have heard before:⠀
1. Stay out of the sun between 10am and 3pm⠀
2. Wear clothing to cover any exposed skin⠀
3. Wear a hat ⠀
4. Use and reapply sun block often. ⠀
⠀
Enjoy the summer responsibly!"⠀
